The back door exodus of virtual schools

35%, 40%, even 50% of students in virtual schools currently leave sometime during the school year. I have seen this churn rate occur and I call it the exodus out the back door.

Most virtual schools spend all of their time trying to figure out how to keep students from leaving through this back door to no avail.

What they tend to forget is the critical element in this churn is not the back door, but the front door.

Spend more time on messaging properly, recruiting the right type of students to come in through the front door, and then you are off to the right start in reducing the churn rate.
